Longhaired Dachshund Breed Notes 30/9/18

It’s hard to believe that we are on the last day of September already & in just four weeks the dreaded clocks alter and British Summertime will be no more. However, for most of us, this past week has seen some glorious days with temperatures still in the twenties & some beautiful sunny afternoons. With working nights I can confirm first hand though several mornings in the early hours have seen a sharp drop & dare I say a touch of frost has been evident. The usual long-range forecasts tell us that once again we are in for one of the worst ‘winters ever’, no doubt more ‘Beast from The East’ episodes, but let’s hope we all winter well.

A few intrepid mainland exhibitors ventured over to Belfast championship show where Min Longs had CCs on offer. Dianna Spavin (Dialynne Beagles) had 14 to judge awarding the BCC & BOB to Fran Mitchell’s Ch Bronia First Impression. Gary McAlpine had a fabulous day on home ground collecting the DCC & BP with Lampcien Trick Or Treat & the RBCC with Lampcien Georgia. Hannah Woodvine-Shone was awarded the RDCC with Ralines Sazerac, in fact the Ralines kennel had a good day with their breeding being connected to all the main winners.

Last weekend the Dachshund Club Of Wales held their open show & I hear the welcome by their committee & food available was second to none. Everyone is always made so welcome at the DC of Wales shows & I for one always look forward to their delicious homemade Welsh Cakes! Alan Mease (Barembak Bassets & smooths) decided the final awards with Sue Ergis’s Min Smooth Siouxline Jacob taking Best In Show & Kim & Duncan McCalmont’s Wire Silvae Trademark taking Reserve Best In Show. Michael Lewis’s Long Trixhund Hi De Hi was Best Puppy In Show at her first show with Sue & Jason Hunt’s Smooth Carpaccio Faberge taking Reserve Best Puppy In Show. Sue & Jason also won Best Veteran In Show with their Smooth Ch Cwmdarhian Hogan’s Hero At Carpaccio.

The latest Kennel Club Journal gives us a few more confirmed judges. Leeds 2019 Colin Gillanders will award CCs in Longs & John Bennett Min Longs. WKC 2019 has Geraldine Brace judging Longs with CCs & Pam Marston-Pollock Min Longs. Driffield will see Stuart Mallard awarding CC’s in Min Longs.

You may remember back in April Simon Parsons & Lloyd Cross where invited to judge at the 12th Australian National Dachshund Specialty championship show that was hosted by the DC of New South Wales. The club has produced a lovely booklet which contains both Simon’s & Lloyd’s critiques along with photographs of the winning three dogs in every class along with many speciality ‘In Show’ winners. It certainly is a real quality publication & it’s interesting to read the judge’s write up on the individual dogs along with the dog’s photograph. I’m sure both gentlemen will treasure this & the memories of the great time which they had with our Aussie friends & indeed it is good to actually see what down under has to offer in Dachshund. It’s well worth checking out & you will find a link to it on the Dachshund Club Of NSW website.

Talking of Wales, our next stop is South Wales Kennel Association all breeds championship show on Saturday at Builth Wells where Min Longs have CCs on offer & Longs are scheduled without.
